ATE Olympic Cast Iron Plates – Rugged, Slim & Budget-Friendly
Elevate your strength training setup with the ATE Olympic Cast Iron Plates, where classic durability meets smart design. Available in pairs ranging from 1.25kg up to 25kg, these plates give you the flexibility to build a routine that evolves with your progress.
Focal Features of ATE Cast Iron Plates
-
Resin Sand Casting Finish: Treated using resin sand casting, each plate boasts an enhanced finish and superior resistance to oxidation — delivering both longevity and aesthetic appeal compared to standard painted options.
-
Slim Profile for Maximum Loading: The thin profile optimises your barbell's loading space, so you can stack more weight on the same bar or storage setup.
-
Cost-Effective & Durable: Tailored to budget-conscious needs, they're robust enough for consistent use in powerlifting and general strength workouts.
-
Dual Weight Markings & Standard Fit: Kilogram/pound markings in a sharp silver-on-black design are easy to read at a glance, and the 50.4mm collar opening ensures compatibility with standard Olympic-sized barbell sleeves.
-
Reliable Weight Tolerance: Accuracy varies slightly by weight — ±7% for 1.25kg and 5kg, ±3% for 2.5kg and 10kg, ±5% for 15kg, and ±2% for 20kg and 25kg.
Why Choose Cast Iron Plates?
Unlike bulky bumper plates, cast iron versions offer a compact, old-school feel that's ideal for big lifts. Their slender design allows for stacking heavier loads — potentially over 480kg on a standard Olympic bar, compared to about 230kg with traditional bumper plates.
Keep in Mind
-
While great for powerlifting, these plates aren't made for overhead dropping — doing so may risk damage to both the plates and your training surface.
-
Their thickness means they occupy more space and may reduce bar "whip" during lifts — something to consider if pushing maximal loads.
Ideal For: Strength trainers who appreciate reliable, long-lasting equipment without breaking the bank — especially powerlifters or beginners building their gym piece by piece.

Frequently Asked Questions:
What are cast iron plates best for?+
Cast iron plates are compact, thin and dense, making them ideal for powerlifting and general strength training where you rack the bar rather than drop it. Their slim profile lets you load much more weight on a standard Olympic bar — potentially over 480kg, versus around 230kg with bulky bumper plates.
Can I drop cast iron plates from overhead?+
No. Cast iron plates are not designed for overhead dropping — doing so can damage the plates and your floor. For Olympic lifting and dropping, choose ATE rubber bumper plates instead. Cast iron plates are best for squats, bench, deadlifts and accessory work.
How accurate are the ATE Cast Iron Plates?+
Weight tolerance varies by size: roughly ±7% for the 1.25kg and 5kg, ±3% for the 2.5kg and 10kg, ±5% for the 15kg, and ±2% for the 20kg and 25kg. This is typical for budget-friendly training plates and fine for general strength work.
What weights are available and will they fit my bar?+
They come in pairs from 1.25kg, 2.5kg, 5kg, 10kg, 15kg, 20kg and 25kg. The 50.4mm centre hole fits all standard Olympic (50mm) barbell sleeves, and dual kg/lb markings make the weights easy to read.
Why are cast iron plates cheaper than bumper or urethane plates?+
Cast iron is a proven, cost-effective material that delivers excellent durability for a lower price, because it doesn't need a rubber or urethane jacket. The trade-off is that it can't be dropped from overhead. For budget-conscious lifters and powerlifters, that makes cast iron outstanding value.
What warranty do the cast iron plates carry?+
The ATE Olympic Cast Iron Plates come with a 1-year warranty against manufacturing defects, and are made by Anand Track & Field Equipment Pvt. Ltd. in Meerut, India.
